Three carved wooden ducks appear to be in flight just above the bed in this lakefront room. Little is known about the origins of these highly stylized carvings but the abstract qualities of each one suggest a rather quirky artistic vision. Another wood carving on a nearby wall was likely carved by an artist rooted in a more traditional style. In yet another original, the bench at the foot of the bed appears to have been crafted from the base of a treadle sewing machine. The room’s focus on decorative wood is carried into the bathroom in an intricately carved mirror frame and set of shelves that hang on the tumbled travertine tiles imported from Italy.
